I’m Christel Caulet. A journalist by trade, a travel blogger by passion, and the founder of Jet-Lag Magazine by conviction.
After over 25 years in the media—France Télévisions, Le Figaro Madame, Figaro Magazine, L’Express, Yahoo, Google—I made the wildest and most liberating decision of my career: working for myself. Launching my own magazine. On my own terms. With my own values.
A Career Unlike Any Other
It all started at France Télévisions, where I learned the ropes as a news writer. But Paris life wasn’t for me. Next stop: the French Overseas Territories—French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Réunion, Saint-Pierre and Miquelon, New Caledonia. Four wild, intense, formative years that taught me to view the world without filters and to take a genuine interest in different cultures.
Back in France, I moved between freelance gigs, newsrooms, and professional endeavors—including four years at Yahoo and a period at Google in Ireland, then in the United States. I saw the tech giant from the inside and learned how information truly works in the digital age.
Then life took back over. I chose to return home. After fifteen years in Toulouse, my partner Julien and I started over somewhere else. Destination: Canada. Montreal is now our home.
Since 2008, I have unpacked my bags in 76 countries across 6 continents. I work with AFP and have contributed to Le Figaro Madame. A Nikon camera slung over my shoulder and a phone for video—that’s all I’ve ever needed to tell the story of the world.
Jet-Lag Magazine: Born from Pure Determination
Jet-Lag Magazine was not born from a business plan. It was born from a deep exhaustion with the precariousness of journalism, and a fierce desire to create something true to myself.
A quarterly publication—four issues a year—dedicated to the world’s most beautiful destinations, hotels that are truly worth the trip, and cultures that broaden the mind. An honest editorial stance: straightforward, down-to-earth, and with no corporate speak. Just like real life.
Two friends joined the adventure from the beginning: Juliette Rigal, a stylist and fashion editor passionate about hiking and Bali, and Sophie Bousquet, a hotel journalist who prefers the countryside to grand palaces, but knows how to appreciate both. More recently, Norah El Bouzidi joined the team as a content manager, bringing experience from visiting 44 countries and a genuine love for global cultures and cuisine.
My partner Julien handles technical development for the site. Anne-Sophie Menuel, a former colleague from the Yahoo days, brings her expertise in SEO. We are a tight-knit, small team working with complete autonomy without a regular sponsor, which preserves our editorial freedom.
What We Believe In
At Jet-Lag Magazine, we believe that well-told travel stories can change how people see the world. Our reports are written directly on the ground, our hotel recommendations are tested for real, and our photos are taken by us—never sourced from stock image libraries.
We are curious, demanding, and proud of it.
